Project Gemini: A Space Thing Or Whatever

Before the Apollo mission, there was Gemini, a program that involved sending conjoined twins into orbit. There was no good scientific reason for this; it was just fun.

Here are a few facts about the Gemini program:

  • Before deciding to focus on conjoined twins, NASA also considered using albinos, dwarves, and albinos. Man, they really wanted to use albinos.
  • Because: albinos are cool.
  • Most of the conjoined twins NASA sent into space in the mid-’60s now live on an old Soviet space station in geosynchronous orbit over Uzbekistan. This will be the basis for William Gibson’s upcoming sequel to his cyberpunk classic, “Neuromancer.”
